A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A wide-angle photograph that includes the first Crandall Library along with the buildings surrounding it. On the far left, the corner of the Glens Fall Insurance Company can be seen. To the right of that is the Soldier's Monument, a tall sandstone marker honoring the Queensbury men who served in the Civil War built in 1872. In the center of the image is the house of Henry Crandall, who donated the building to house the library as well as the money for books and furniture. To the left of Crandall's house, the first of a row of business buildings, is the building that housed the Crandall Free Library, as Crandall was then known. The library occupied the second floor of the building, and remained there until 1919, when the complex was torn down and rebuilt and the library moved to the Jerome Lapham House.
