The goal of the final bachelor work – to research of gamma radiation background in Šiauliai. The topicality of the subject, problems, goals and objectives are preceded. The sources of ionizing radiation and their species of humans and of the environment to analyze in this paper. It discusses the origin of the natural external and internal human exposure. The paper deals with the background gamma radiation survey in the city of Šiauliai. It was found that the gamma radiation background ranging from 0,07 to 0,13 μSv/h in the city of Šiauliai. Gamma radiation background value depends on the composition of the soil, vegetation and topography and the surrounding building materials. The obtained data were systematized and presented in graphs. The data of gamma radiation background to picture with the program Surfer. Gamma radiation background is dominated by the city of Šiauliai, living environment and in building materials. All measurement values within the allowed radiation dose in dwellings 0,35 μSv/h, in the workplace 0,45 μSv/h and the total yearly dose of 2,2 mSv. The findings and recommendations presented on public awareness various construction materials, and building structures in this paper.
