Denna uppsats handlar om genius loci. Utgångspunkten har varit en tes om att det är ett begrepp som vi landskapsarkitekter intuitivt förstår och påverkas av men skulle ha nytta av att konkretisera. Målet är att hitta fram till möjliga svar på dessa frågor: Hur kan landskapsarkitekten tolka begreppet genius loci? Hur kan landskapsarkitekten arbeta i praktiken för att finna en plats genius? Genom att undersöka begreppet genius loci utifrån både ett teoretiskt och ett praktiskt perspektiv hoppas jag kunna skapa en ökad förståelse för hur och varför vi landskapsarkitekter kan använda det. Genom studier av bland annat Christian Norberg-Schulz verk Genius loci: towards a phenomenology of architecture samt intervjuer och reflektioner över min egen praktik har jag kommit fram till att tesen stämmer. Landskapsarkitekten förstår begreppet genius loci som en känsla, och denna känsla har stort inflytande på hennes praktik. Norberg-Schulz teorier kan översättas till analysverktyg som kan hjälpa landskapsarkitekten att använda genius loci mer medvetet och systematiskt. På det sättet kan genius loci bli en stor inspirationskälla och ett stöd i arbetet med att skapa bra platser. ; This thesis discusses genius loci. It is built on the premise that landscape architects intuitively understand and are influenced by the concept but could use a more concrete interpretation of it. The aim is to present possible answers for these questions: How can the landscape architect interpret the concept of genius loci? How can the landscape architect work practically to find the genius of a place? By analyzing the concept of genius loci from both a theoretical and a practical perspective, I hope to increase the understanding of how and why landscape architects could use it. Through studies of Christian Norberg-Schulz’ book Genius loci: towards a phenomenology of architecture and other literature, and through interviews and reflections on my own practice, I have reached the conclusion that my premise is correct. The landscape architect understands genius loci as a feeling, having great influence on her practical work. The theories of Norberg-Schulz can be translated into tools for analyze, which can help the landscape architect use genius loci in a more conscious and systematic manner and thereby find a great inspiration and guidance in the process of creating good places.
