Based on the notion of discrete conformal equivalence we investigate discrete uniformization of Riemann surfaces. We generalize the concept from triangulations to cyclic nets, i.e., meshes with faces whose vertices lie on circles. We look into various examples of conformal maps in the plane, the sphere, tori, and surfaces of higher genus. We present three applications in the context of architectural geometry and show how discrete conformal maps are helpful when designing surfaces in this setting. Lastly we discuss the software developed in order to create the results.
