El Roser Social Centre in Catalonia
The prison in Reus near Tarragona, which was built in 1929 and is today a listed building, already underwent an astonishing metamorphosis in 1979. Back then, it was redesigned to serve as a children’s day care centre. After standing empty for several years, it has recently been replanned yet again. This time the complex was transformed into a social centre that fulfils several functions. As well as benefitting people with social needs, it is intended that this facility should also be used by residents of the neighbourhood.
Das 1929 erbaute, denkmalgeschützte Gefängnisgebäude in Reus bei Tarragona erfuhr bereits 1979 eine erstaunliche Metamorphose. Damals wurde es kurzerhand zur Kindertagesstätte umfunktioniert. Nach einigen Jahren Leerstand fand nun eine weitere Umnutzung statt. Diesmal wurde der Komplex in ein soziales Zentrum verwandelt, das vielerlei Funktionen erfüllt. Neben sozial bedürftigen Menschen sollen es auch die Bewohner aus der Nachbarschaft nutzen können.
