Wie in vielen Teilen Spaniens war Naturstein auch auf den Balearen ein tragender Bestandteil der regionalen Bautradition, bis ihm Ziegel und Stahlbeton den Rang abliefen. Bei seinen acht Sozialwohnungen am nördlichen Stadtrand von Palma de Mallorca hat das Instituto Balear de la Vivienda (IBAVI), der öffentliche Wohnungsbauträger der Balearen, den Baustoff jetzt zu neuem Leben erweckt.
In many parts of Spain natural stone was a major element of regional building traditions, until stone was replaced by brick and reinforced concrete. This is also the case on the Balearic islands. For the eight social housing units located on the northern outskirts of Palma de Mallorca, the public housing developer of the islands, the Instituto Balear de la Vivienda (IBAVI) used the traditional building material once again.
