Mit einer Geschossfläche von 28 000 m², einer Höhe von 82 m und einer Grundfläche von 60 × 160 m befindet sich in der schwedische Stadt Skellefteå eines der größten Holzgebäude der Welt, das Sara-Kulturzentrum, benannt nach der schwedischen Schriftstellerin Sara Lidman. Der Gebäudekomplex vereint unterschiedliche kulturelle Nutzungen und bildet damit das neue Zentrum der Stadt. Es beherbergt mehrere Theaterbühnen und öffentliche Veranstaltungsräume, einen Konzertsaal, ein Kunstmuseum, eine Kunstgalerie, Räume für Tanz und Ballett, die städtische Bibliothek sowie ein Hotel mit Konferenzzentrum.
The Swedish city of Skellefteå with its roughly 35,000 inhabitants is located 770 km north of Stockholm at the Gulf of Bothnia. With its floor area of 28,000 m2, height of 82 m and footprint of 60 × 160 m the Sara Cultural Centre is one of the world’s largest timber buildings. The building complex unites diverse cultural functions and constitutes the new centre of the city. It houses numerous theatre stages and public event spaces, a concert hall, an art museum, studios for dance and ballet, the municipal library as well as a hotel with conference centre.
