A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Beneath the broad roof of the elaborately refurbished Halles du Scilt in Schiltigheim, 2 km north of the centre of Strasbourg, a market, an arts centre and a cafe are now to be found. Originally, the building housed a distillery. This was followed by the local butchers’ cooperative and then by an exhibition gallery, before the structure was finally closed for ten years for safety reasons. The present rehabilitation of the hall is meant to contribute to the revitalization of the historic city centre.
