The construction industry in Finland has already gained experience with BIM. In 2007 the method became obligatory for public construction projects exceeding a budget of one million euro. With the Kaupunkiympäristotalo – or, in English: the Urban Environment House – the city of Helsinki goes one step further by planning to use the building model for the successive operation of the facility.
In Finnland hat die Baubranche bereits Erfahrungen mit BIM. Bereits 2007 wurde die Methode für öffentliche Bauvorhaben ab einer Million Euro Bauvolumen zur Pflicht und entsprechend lange arbeiten die größeren Architektur- und Ingenieurbüros schon mit dreidimensionalen, semantischen Gebäudemodellen. Mit dem Kaupunkiympäristotalo – deutsch: Haus der städtischen Umwelt – geht die Stadt Helsinki nun noch einen Schritt weiter und will das Gebäudemodell auch für den späteren Gebäudebetrieb nutzen.
