Mount Herzl is a green hill located five kilometres west of the old city of Jerusalem, and named after Theodor Herzl, the founder of Zionism. Besides being the site of Herzl’s last resting place, its slopes also home to Israel’s national cemetery for soldiers, politicians and other notable figures as well as the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial., , In autumn 2017, the Memorial Hall of Israel’s Fallen was opened at Mount Herzl in remembrance of the men and women who have lost their lives defending Israel since 1860.
