Wie so oft ist die Bahntrasse auch in Sierre zugleich Segen und Fluch für die Schweizer Kleinstadt. Einerseits verbindet sie den Ort mit Genf, andererseits wirkt sie wie eine Barriere zum Rhonetal im Süden. Dort haben sich bisher nur wenige Industriebetriebe angesiedelt. Mit dem neuen Busbahnhof und dem Neubau einer großen Handelsfachschule soll dieser Standort nun attraktiver werden.
As is so often the case, the railway line in the little Swiss town of Sierre is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it links this location with Geneva; on the other hand, it forms something of a barrier to the Rhône valley to the south.
