Zu wesentlich geringeren Kosten als für einen Neubau haben Stifter+ Bachmann auf die bestehenden Mauern des Werkstattgebäudes mit Dienstwohnung zwei leichte transparente Geschosse aufgesetzt. Anstelle der ursprünglichen Zäsur zwischen Wand und Satteldach führt nun eine Hülle aus Acrylglas Alt und Neu zu einem homogenen Kubus zusammen. Das Gebäude aus den 1980er-Jahren wurde nicht nur energetisch, sondern vor allem architektonisch aufgewertet.
On top of this workshop building with residence, Stifter + Bachmann have added two light, transparent storeys far more economically than a completely new structure would have been. Instead of the original walls and saddle roof, a perspex skin now unites old and new to form a homogeneous cube. Dating from the 1980s, the building was upgraded not only in terms of energy, but above all architecturally. Despite doubling the former net effective floor area, it was possible to reduce heating-energy needs to a third of what they were before.
