BEDROOM INTERIOR IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY (EUROPE). NEOPLASTICISM, FUNCTIONALISM
The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the stylistic features, both spatial and physical, that are associated with the emergence and development of bedroom interiors in 1901-1939; the influence of gender on bedroom typology; and the characteristic zoning principles. Bedroom interiors by Gerrit Rietveld, Le Corbusier, and Eileen Gray, iconic examples of Neoplasticism and Functionalism interior design in Europe in 1919-1939, are reviewed. The conclusion provides a detailed rationale for the distinctive features of the "innovative" direction in bedroom interior design.
