A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism

The article discusses city contests as an instrument of urban development. It describes different forms of city contests and shows, how those correspond with different interests and expectations of the contractee and the participating cities. Taking the city contest T-City of the Deutsche Telekom as an example, characteristic issues and the process, expectations of the participants and results of the contest are described. Finally, some conclusions are drawn as to who benefits from contests and what the benefits are.
