THE EMERGENCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE FUNCTIONAL-PLANNING STRUCTURE OF AL-AMARA IN THE LATE 20TH-21ST CENTURY
The use of historical data in the analysis of urbanization processes is important for urban space research and for determining urban development prospects. The article considers the practice of urban planning of Iraqi cities in the late 20th- early 21st century. The study aims to analyze the urban development process of Iraqi cities on the example of Al-Amara city from the period of formation of the Iraqi national government in 1921 to the beginning of the 21st century. The article is the first to review and analyze the materials of the master plans of the city of Al-Amara from 1950 to 2008. The most important negative and positive aspects of the master plans considered are highlighted, and the urban development models and functional land-use types are reviewed. The results of the study reflect the urban planning process of the Iraqi cities of the 20th-21st century and can be used by researchers to determine the future trends of the cities in the region under consideration.
