A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism

Many major German cities have in the past attempted to shape the media sector into the focal point of this domain by applying structural concepts and thereby forcing the transition towards a modern service-orientated society. Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt/M. are considered to be the leading media centers. However, a closer analysis of the spatial concentration and specialisation of the economic structure reveals that there are certain regional attributes in each of the branches of the media sector. By listing the opportunities and risks related to the various funding estimates available for initiating an effective and efficient media sector, this paper is intended to assist regional players in formulating correspondingly adjusted concepts of development.
