Geomedia. Postindustrial practices of public space improvement in Arctic cities
Architecture is the most important tool for transforming the environment. According to S. McQuire, today, the advent of media technologies creates a new “modality”, which turns architecture into a dynamic media product. The article considers the Arctic as a potential space for the application of media architecture and media technologies, emphasizing the possibility of using these tools to solve the unique environmental and socio-economic problems of the region. The Arctic is regarded is a “territory of the future”, where the new media architecture design approaches may have an impact on the environment. The possibility of implementing media architectural practices in different contexts is discussed, particularly in the Arctic, where a number of problems can be solved with the help of these new tools.
