A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Desiring neighborhoods. The case of Pigneto in Rome
In contemporary cities, diverse and authentic neighborhoods are becoming major economic assets as desirable places. It is the case of the borough of Pigneto in Rome, an originally working class settlement that has been subsequently gentrified, and today faces yet another transformation, as new expectations arise concerning multiethnic coexistence. Empirical research1 shows that, even though working class population is no longer the majority, images of a ‘lively working class neighborhood’ remain strong in collective representations and contribute to shape specific local forms of urbanity.
