Reconstruction and extension: "Svetozar Marković" Primary School, Belgrade
The paper shows the reconstruction and extension of the existing building of the "Svetozar Marković" Elementary School in Belgrade, designed by the "a2arhitektura" team of authors Dijana Adžemović-Anđelković and Vladimir Anđelković with their collaborators . The project began in 2007 with the reconstruction and adaptation of the school boiler room into a multi-purpose hall, for which the team of authors won the award in the category Interior at the 32nd Salon of Architecture in Belgrade in 2010, after which the reconstruction and extension of the existing school building followed within the Program of modernization of schools with the aim to improve the work conditions, namely with the aim to extend the existing capacities, in 2014. The architectural and urban planning concept of the extension is characterized by a careful superposition of the functions and forms of the existing and the newly designed part, while at the same time preserving its identity and achieving a new architectural value. The authors dedicated a special attention to the adjustment of the newly designed volume with the existing aesthetic and structural characteristics of the building aiming at achieving the unity of the function and form taking into account that the newly designed part of the building clearly indicates the contemporary architectural expression.
