Textile printing and dyeing industry is one of the industrial industries with the largest discharge of wastewater and pollutants. It is also featured by energy-intensive and high-carbon emission characteristics. Low-carbon wastewater treatment has become an important path for sustainable development. Based on the analysis of the greenhouse gas emission characteristics of printing and dyeing wastewater treatment process, the concept of carbon emission potential in terms of used dyes was proposed. To address the complexity and variability of wastewater treatment process and wastewater quality, an accurate estimation method of carbon emission in wastewater treatment process was established according to carbon and nitrogen mass balance. The progress and development direction of low-carbon treatment technology for textile printing and dyeing wastewater were summarized in this paper.
