Nuove Tecnologie per lo studio del paesaggio storico Akaiwa, Comune di Kuni: un caso studio in Giappone
New technologies for the study of historical landscapes From the ‘70s the Japanese cultural properties protection has started considering traditional buildings and, more recently, also historic landscape. Thanks to this context, new methods for historic landscape analysis are needed. Within the Akaiwa village (Gunma prefecture) project it has been possible to develop a method based on land-use and land plot shape analysis. Thanks to the existence of valuable cadasters from 1786 and 1873 it has been possible to draw land-use maps which have been overlaid to the 1931 and 2004 situation. The historic maps have been rasterized and deformed in order to be overlayable to the present topographic map. Employing such a method the study has been able to trace the landscape transformations since the eighteenth century and to identify the most valuable areas to be protected by future conservation plans.
