A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
StavecoLab. Works by students attending Architectural Design Course in Bologna
In these pages the design work developed in 2011 by students of Architectural Design of the University of Bologna is documented, which was discussed and compared with the canadian students at Carleton University, Ottawa, on the former military industrial area named Staveco, in Bologna.Beyond strategies set to recover the relationship with the hill through a process of urban transformation, the interest lies in the condition of otherness and isolation of the area, adjacent to the historic center but never really involved in the life of the city. This hidden and inaccessible area will become a vehicle of connection between different territories. It is argued here as a contradictory condition could be an element of strength, provided a courageous way of interpreting the opportunities and dealing decisively with the crucial issues. The students’ projects illustrate the topic.
