Validating the framework of Construction Technical Intelligence (CTI)
This study validates the Construction Technical Intelligence (CTI) framework, which measures the adaptability of construction professionals to unfamiliar technical contexts in international projects. Data from 313 Chinese construction expatriates in Thailand were used for exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA). Results showed that the CTI framework has strong internal structure, composite reliability, and convergent validity. Discriminant validity analysis revealed that expatriates with longer international working experience tend to exhibit higher CTI levels, but no significant difference was found for those with over 5 years of overseas experience. Criterion-related validity confirmed significant associations between CTI factors and individual work performance (IWP) dimensions. This study provides a foundation for evaluating and enhancing expatriates’ adaptability, offering a tool for assessing readiness and tailoring training programs to improve technical adjustment and performance in international projects.
