A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Lumenhaus is the third solar house designed and built by Virginia Tech College of Architecture and Urban Studies according to a program begun in 2002. In June 2010, I won the international Solar Decathlon competition, which was held in Madrid. Inspired by the Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe, in a sense, it retraces its path by incorporating some features, such as transparency, form, the essentiality of the structure, the relationship with the surrounding landscape. Lumenhaus manages to balance the quality of the architectural design with the safeguard conservation of resources and energy efficiency, making sustainable architecture exciting and attractive for formal and aesthetic aspects and ethical, economic and environmental ones.
