Evaluation of Seismic Load of the Medieval Mine Jeroným, Czech Republic
The medieval mine Jeroným located in the western part of the Czech Republic has been arranged among historical monuments of the Czech Republic. At present, geotechnical and seismological studies are performed to evaluate conditions for preparing this mine for public. It is known that in surroundings is epicentre region of natural earthquakes (NW-Bohemia/Vogtland region. In the past decade, dominant in the seismic activity within this region were swarms that occurred in January 1997 and August-December 2000. The strongest, macroseismically felt shock of swarm of 1997 had an local magnitude of 3.0. A characteristic feature of this region is the repeated occurence of intraplate ML< 5.0 earthquake swarms. The building operations during reconstruction of mine contibute to seismic load of this mining spaces. Seismological evaluation of current situation are presented in this contribution. First experimental measurement contributed to evaluation of current seismic noise (up to 2E-5 m.s-1 on vertical component and 5E-6 on horizontal ones) and seismic effect of heavy traffic on road at surface (see wave pattern on fig. 3 and particle motion on fig. 4) and common human activity.
