Portable housing facing global challenges: Sustainable development solutions
Contemporary global challenges pose non-trivial demands for creating new portable housing architecture typologies. The article is devoted to the latest approaches to portable housing organization: an ultra-compact architectural typology, capable of flexible transformation and manual relocation by the user. The purpose of the article is to identify the main approaches to the organization of modern portable architecture aimed at creating habitable space in extreme environmental conditions. Aspects of portability of contemporary minimal housing are highlighted: prefabricated individual residential facility; a dwelling with expanded functionality, individual elements of which serve as interior items and furniture; ultra-light portable housing carried by the occupant; a dwelling transformed from clothing and footwear to become a shelter; a portable dwelling powered by the user and possessing the qualities of radical mobility; portable housing with virtual components. Modern implemented and conceptual projects devoted to various portability aspects of a home are analyzed. The article may be useful for further theoretical research and modelling of the concepts of prefabricated objects and minimal housing.
