DIMENSIONS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HISTORICAL CITY PLANNING STRUCTURE OF SAMARA
The paper presents the results of studying the factors ensuring sustainable development of urban structure and preservation of historical and architectural heritage and cultural values. Today it is becoming important to identify elements in the architectural and planning structure for addressing development problems proceeding from the principles of continuity. Examination of the historically formed urban planning structure of Samara enabled us to identify the social, economic and environmental factors that ensure the city’s successive and sustainable development. A system of indices is proposed for assessing the sustainability of the urban planning structure. A comparative analysis of Samara’s 2008 and 2019 master plans is carried out. The system of indices has no reference values and is universal and applicable in relative values, which allows monitoring the development of the city. The estimates show that such elements of the architectural and planning structure as urban landscape, streets and external traffic are sustainable. At the same time, natural landscape, buildings and open spaces display both positive and negative change dynamics.
