Seismic design of reinforced concrete structures with damage control
Reinforced concrete (RC) structures often suffer damage when subjected to earthquakes. Seismic design RC structures with damage control can be an appropriate method. To control the damage of structures, the damage index, which varies from 0 (no damage) to 1 (collapse), is used to quantify the damage levels. In this paper, a procedure of the seismic design of RC structures with damage control is proposed and a case study is presented. This design method shows its advantages as the damage of structures is controlled by the damage index and the distribution of damage in structures. However, further study is needed to improve the method.
