Patrimônio Arquitetônico no Estado de São Paulo: uma arquitetura para matadouros e mercados antigos
The paper aims to draw attention to the existence of an agri-industrial architectural heritage existing in the State of Sao Paulo, especially slaughterhouses and markets, which were built between the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, in the context of a sanitation policy. The late recovery of this architectural heritage was responsible for the demolition of these buildings. Many buildings, including significant examples, that later have become a model for other structures, were demolished between the 1960s and 1980s. At the time, the idea of a historical value of industrial heritage was not yet diffused.
