Grouping compensation measures from impact regulation in compensation pools has gained in importance recently not only on a local municipal but also on a regional level. The example of the “Flächenagentur Kulturlandschaft Mittlere Havel” in Brandenburg, which meanwhile is operating area-wide within this Federal State, serves to demonstrate different aspects that are relevant for a regional management of areas for purposes of nature conservation. In particular, it becomes apparent that for establishing a regional management of areas for nature conservation it is essential to choose the appropriate organisation form and that compensation pools may contribute to the implementation of concepts for nature conservation on a regional level. To assure an appropriate integration into extensive spatial relations, within the instruments of spatial planning above all landscape framework plans should stronger attend to this subject by setting respective targets and priorities.
