Misure e limiti del paesaggio fiorentino (xv secolo)
In the XV century the relationship between Florence and its surroundings, given by natural and fortified limits, reaches a height of big intensity. The painting of Botticini (tavola dell’Assunzione della Vergine, 1475) is one of the most singular expression of that correspondence. The lightness of the ceiling, painted as an huge green upset basket, overhangs the Florentine region. In the meanwhile the ground scene is impressed by the majestic dome of S. Maria del Fiore. Between these two realities is established a series of correspondences and implications, expressed by others iconographic and literary expressions, in which - in an explicit way or not - the reference to the circle is central. We remind the Laudatio of Florence written by L. Bruni (1403), the synthetic praise of the dome expressed by L.B. Alberti (1436) and, in particular, the drawings of Botticelli inspired by the Dante’s Divina Commedia.
