Bridge failures due to local scouring are very common. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent local scouring in order to protect the bridges. One of the common causes of local scouring is the interference of bridge abutments on flowing water. The disruption of river flow pattern leads to bridge scour which can eventually damage the overall structure of the bridge. The purpose of this study was to see the behavior of local scour due to the treatment of bridge abutments. The abutment model used in this study is a vertical wall type abutment measuring 12 cm wide, 4.5 cm thick, and 80 cm high. The treatment of abutments is done by placing the orifice and by deflecting the abutment at a 90 ° angle. This research was conducted using a flume with a length of 15.46 meters, a width of 0.50 meters and a height of 1.00 meters which was given a layer of sand 10 cm thick with characteristics d50 = 0.379 mm and g = 2.786 on the river bed. Observations were made at a constant discharge of 2.65 l / sec for 60 minutes for each running and measured using a point gauge. The results showed that the treatment of the abutments had an effect on the scour depth. As a result of being deflected by 90°, the scour depth at points 1, 3, and 4 respectively decreases by 17.8%, 20.5%, and 24.3% compared to the scour on untreated abutment; whereas due to placement of orifice, the scour depth at points 1, 3, and 4 respectively decreased by 21.6%, 24.3%, and 30.4%. The treatment of abutments also changes the scour pattern.
