Traffic Restriction Policies in Lithuanian Cities Based on Vilnius Case Study
The paper presents the results of a feasibility study on traffic restriction strategies in the Old Town of Vilnius, Lithuania. The annual growth of traffic flows in the narrow streets of Vilnius Old Town is increasing environmental, traffic safety, economic and social problems. The article includes an analysis of worldwide land use and transport strategies, surveys of the traffic flows in Vilnius Old Town and the analysis of survey results. As a follow-up to the afore-mentioned research, the article presents strategic proposals related to traffic organization and the substantiation of the made proposals. In addition, the article includes more widely analyzed strategic proposals of the Old Town by-passes, loop and paid entrances to the Old Town section.
