Transverse bending strength of reinforced concrete beams with single reinforcement
The objective of the research considered in this article is to find out the role of longitudinal reinforcement and conditions of its bonding with concrete in ensuring strength and forming a physical phenomenon of work and failure of reinforced concrete beams of rectangular cross-section in transverse bending zones. It gives the test results for three pairs (series) of experimental specimens made as reinforced concrete beams of rectangular cross-section with the same strength of concrete, which are reinforced only by longitudinal reinforcement represented by two A500 rods. Experimental specimens were tested as free supporting beams loaded in the span by two similar concentrated forces. Each pair of experimental specimens had the same longitudinal reinforcement and various conditions of bonding between reinforcement with concrete along their length. For one of the specimens in the pair, bonding was fully ensured along the entire length, while for the other one it was fully disrupted in transverse bending zones. Reinforcement rod diameters for each pair were different. The results show the role of longitudinal reinforcement and conditions of its bonding with concrete in ensuring strength, forming the stress-strain state and nature of failure of reinforced beams of rectangular cross-section in transverse bending zones.
