The purpose of this article is to compliment previous studies on Brasilia. It has special interest in questions relative to the preservation of Brasilia’s modern heritage. Recognising that the city was conceived from an optimist and utopian perspective, that it confronts its current situation, and reflects on the present are the article’s fundamental tasks. To understand Brasilia’s architectural heritage is paramount in order to guide a critical reflection about our own modernity and to broaden the epistemological field of architecture. It is necessary to explore the tensions of the general idea of the city, whilst confronting urban reality, in order that alternatives can be discussed, new possibilities found, and staple values identified. However, it is essential to research new technical challenges, symbolic aspects, and the functional demands that pertain to the conservation and preservation of the city’s modern architecture.
