Total height of nine-story building is 80 ft and thus costly fire detection and fire fighting equipment required for higher buildings has been avoided; foundations consist of 50, 75 and 90 ton piles on sand of average depth of between 15 and 20 ft; 6 in. reinforced concrete cross walls, required for soundproofing between flats are load-bearing and support 5 in. one-way, flat plate floor slabs; all external finishes are concrete; roof slab is covered with bituminous felt roofing; windows are narrow, horizontal strips, either sliding or top-hung except outside walls of living rooms, facing balconies, which are fully glazed from floor to ceiling.
