Important developments in asphaltic surfacings
Trends, characterizing recent development, are following: increased knowledge and improved technique of utilization of "engineered subgrades"; pretreatment of cover coat aggregates for surface treatment work; extended use of plant mixes; lower temperatures at which mixtures are placed; new wider road surfaces obtained rapidly and at low cost by applying principles of "engineered subgrades. " (See also Roads and Streets v 85 n 1 Jan 1942 p 36-41; Eng News-Rec v 128 n 7 Feb 12 1942 p 242-4; Roads and Road Construction v 20 n 236 Aug 1 1942 p 171-4) (Spanish translation in)
