Steel pedestals for heavy columns
Column loadings in Battersea power plant extension demanded pedestals to disperse load in direct manner; form of pedestal consists of top bearing plate connected by means of core of H section with radiating ribs to base plate ensuring pressure not exceeding 620 lb per sq in.; pressure was specified for reinforced concrete of proportion of 4 cu ft of 3/4 in. crushed single to 2 cu ft of sand and 1 cwt of cement.
