Pore pressures and bearing capacity of layered clays
Permeability and compressibility-expansibility ratios are investigated, and variations of pore-pressure distributions with time are calculated; resulting variations of bearing capacity with time of clays are determined by means of stability calculations; it is concluded that if either permeability ratio or compressibility-expansibility ratio is small in magnitude, then bearing capacity of clay can be expected to increase steadily after load application.
