Sand transport studies with radioactive tracers
Radioactive tracer techniques provide feasible means for applying Lagrangian techniques to observation of sediment transport processes in natural rivers and laboratory flumes; transport of bed material particles can be described as sequence of alternating steps and rest periods of random length and duration; bed material discharge can be computed from continuity equation in which velocity is defined by rate of movement of mean position of group of tracer particles, and area is defined as average cross sectional area of bed through which tracer particles are distributed.
