Empirical equation is developed to facilitate use of existing circular curve templates for plotting vertical curves; basic equation derived is adjusted to reflect scales used in plotting roadway profiles; practical use of method is limited only by largest available template; use of existing circular templates is most advantageous in plotting long and flat vertical curves in contract drawings.
