Effect of geometric characteristics of coarse aggregates on compaction characteristics of soil-aggregate mixtures
Six coarse aggregate materials with discernible geometric characteristics, including pit-run gravel and crushed stone materials, were used in study; "particle index" test, developed at University of Illinois was used for quantitative evaluation; results show that volume of voids in soil aggregate mixture of given gradation under standard laboratory compactive condition decreases linearly with decreasing values of particle index of coarse aggregates.
