Method for calculating relief of stresses in rectangular welded plate by local heating; to calculate stress field caused by plastic strains, analogy between plastic strain gradients and body forces shown by T.H.Lin is applied; stress field equation satisfying conditions of equilibrium, compatibility, and Reuss-Mises relation of material is expressed in system of simultaneous equations in finite difference form and solved by digital computer; method may be extended to plates of other shapes.
