A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Reactor containment and environmental considerations
Environmental problems associated with economic location and operation of nuclear power plants are outlined; current research leads to possibility of locating such plants within areas of large population concentrations; assumptions possible as result of intensive experimental and analytical programs together with design innovations have reduced old damage potential estimates; these, originally conservatively high by factor of 107, are now only high by factor of 102; further reduction by factor of 10 appears possible.
