Accelerated motion of sphere in viscous fluid
Investigation of free fall of sphere from rest in viscous fluid was carried out in order to gain better understanding of this fundamental form of accelerated motion; analytical solution to equation of motion was obtained for spheres within Stokes range; for spheres above Stokes range, approximate equation of motion was evaluated by numerical methods; approach developed as result of study may possibly be applied to other types of accelerated particle motion, such as that frequently encountered in natural environments involving sediment transportation and deposition.
