Evaluation of frontage roads as urban freeway design element
Design and operational aspects of frontage roads and diamond interchanges are discussed; capacity analysis is developed for conventional 2-level, split 2-level, and 3-level diamond interchanges; results of analysis show wide range of interchange capacity that can be obtained with variations presented; analysis points out various design criteria necessary to obtain maximum operational efficiency and capacity.
