Generation of artificial earthquakes
Method for generating random process having known pertinent properties of recorded strong-motion earthquake accelerograms; eight pseudo-earthquakes of 30 sec duration were generated on digital computer, and velocities, displacements, and velocity spectra were calculated; artificial earthquakes are satisfactory models of strong-motion earthquakes for purposes of structural analysis, and can be used as standard ground motion for design of structure; use of pseudo-accelerograms is proposed to study statistics of responses of hysteretic-type structures to earthquake motion.
