Environmental influence on corrosion of reinforcing in concrete bridge substructures
Survey made of condition of 239 bridges located throughout State of California showed that corrosion of embedded steel was evident in varying amounts in approximately 28% of bridges; structures ranged in age up to 50 yr; equation was developed which gives probable time to cracking of reinforced concrete substructure; equation takes into account effect of variables of cement and mixing water content, thickness of cover over steel, and chloride content of environment.
