Pneumatic reduction of salt intrusion through locks
Design criteria to reduce intrusion of salt water through navigation locks by releasing bubbles of air from perforated pipes placed on bottom of lock chamber; experiments show that pneumatic barriers do not reduce navigability of ships passing through, and that barriers are reestablished shortly after ship has passed; salt water is diluted while penetrating through pneumatic barrier.
