Stability of breakwater against sliding due to pressure of breaking waves
Theoretical study on shearing force which should act between horizontal joint surfaces due to impact of breaking wave; suitable dimensionless parameters are used; theoretically, criterion of stability of wall against sliding should be F >μW, F being " actual" shearing resistance which is equal to P minus (or plus) inertia resistance of wall, P is resultant instantaneous pressure, μ is coefficient of static friction, W submerged weight of wall; actual shearing resistance in case of monolithic wall is given by equation which neglects damping of oscillation of wall due to water.
